living it out

there is this quote i found a couple years ago that i have at the bottom of this page:

"We often ask God to show up. We pray prayers of rescue. Perhaps God would ask us to be that rescue, to be His body, to move for things that matter. He is not invisible when we come alive. I might be simple but more and more, I believe God works in love, speaks in love, and is revealed in our love"Jamie Tworkowski

lately, i have had been overwhelmed with opportunities to see people living this love out in their DAILY lives. it is convicting and yet encouraging at the same time.

through a round about way, i became aware of this organization called the Medical Advocacy Team that helps children in other countries gain access to life saving health care in the U.S. at no cost. as you can imagine, this process is completely dependent upon the grace of God and the kindness of strangers who desire to live their lives as Jesus would. so over the last week, i've had the opportunity to visit with 9 week old baby Bear at a local hospital and his care taker while he's in the U.S. Bear is brand new to this world and has already experience 10 times the medical complications and procedures i have experienced in my nearly 27 years of life. you can read about his story here.

today gregg and i spent 3 hours with him while the woman taking care of him got a much needed break from the hospital. she is truly a living, breathing example of the love of Christ on this earth. She is here with 3 of her children, away from her home in another state and 5 other children and husband, to dedicate literally every second of her life to this precious baby's life for as long as he needs it. Bear has run into more medical challenges than originally expected and will need to stay in the hospital for over a month. i just spent one afternoon with him and i can tell you, it is beyond challenging. i know it's probably fair to say that she isn't perfect but Jesus isn't asking us to be perfect-He's asking us to love and that is what she is doing.

please try to remember to pray for Bear-that his infections clear up and that they are able to move forward with his next surgery soon. i've also been praying that he be comfortable and not experience any pain-he's just so tiny and sweet. also, for Bear's parents back in haiti who are waiting to hear updates on his health. and for the family here caring for Bear and the rest of their family waiting for them back home.
